Students learn outlining to essay writing plus sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Program Content:

  • Writing Expression
  • Developing a main idea, sequencing, comparisons, incorporating details, facts and opinions, cause and effect
  • Presenting an argument, and writing from a point of view
  • Topic sentences, paragraph transitions, and editing
  • Writing Mechanics
  • Grammar, Parts of Speech (nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions), Sentence Structure (subjects and predicates)
  • Standard Usage (subject verb, irregular verbs, pronouns, word choice)
  • Capitalization (first words, proper nouns, proper adjectives, direct quotations)
  • Punctuation (end marks, periods, commas, semicolons, apostrophes, quotation marks, colons)
  • Dictionary and Thesaurus use
Program Length:
The Write Way is a guaranteed program. Time requirements based on the individualized plan and parent objectives are discussed at the post-test conference.

Prerequisites:

A reading test determines eligibility for our writing program. We recommend that students be at or above grade level in reading vocabulary and comprehension before taking writing. The writing test returns grade level equivalencies in writing expression and mechanics and is the basis for the student's individualized program.
